What’s the weather like in the Algarve?
With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, little rain and temperatures rarely dropping below 16°C, the Algarve has an enviable climate, characterised by its mild winters and long, hot summers. The region offers ideal weather for year-round outdoor activities including golf, hiking, cycling and many more experiences; and with the influence of both the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas, it boasts the perfect conditions for surfing too.
Algarve weather in the Summer
June to September are the hottest months of the year in the Algarve, and you will enjoy a good 12 hours of sunshine per day. Daytime temperatures can top 30°C, but will feel comfortable on the beach as the coastal breezes tend to cool things down a bit. Night-time temperatures rarely drop below 20°C, perfect for outdoor eating.

Algarve weather in the Spring
Spring is a great time to holiday in the Algarve, and a popular time for cycling holidays, with temperatures a very pleasant 18°C to 20°C during March and April. It will feel as if summer has arrived in May, with temperatures often topping 28°C in the sun.
Algarve weather in the Autumn
Autumn is a great season to visit the Algarve, with average temperatures slightly cooler than in the height of summer, at an average of 19°C to 22°C during the day. This is the most popular season for golfing breaks, and it’s also not unusual to spot people sunbathing on the beaches in October and November!
Algarve weather in the Winter
Winter temperatures are mild in the Algarve, dropping to around 15°C to 16°C from December to February. Although you can expect some rain from time to time, conditions are still suitable for outdoor activities – particularly hiking – and in January and February the countryside is covered with a gorgeous blanket of white and pink almond blossom.
